Munich. Anticipation is building for one of Munich’s most traditional sporting highlights. In just twelve days’ time, the world’s very best players will take to the courts at the MTTC Iphitos for the ATP tennis tournament, the BMW Open by Bitpanda. Held for the first time as an ATP 500 event, the former International Tennis Championships of Bavaria now ranks among the 30 biggest tournaments in the world.
However, ahead of the unveiling of the new tournament category and a new Centre Court on 12 April, a special unveiling took place today, Monday, at Marienplatz. Dr Christian Scharpf, Councillor for Labour and Economic Affairs, Dr Eva Nase and Dr Marc Tenbücken, both members of the MTTC Iphitos board, together with Emanuel Fraitzl, Managing Director of MTTC Iphitos, jointly presented an impressive work of art in front of Munich City Hall: the new “Spectacular”.
The impressive sculpture, around three-and-a-half metres tall and weighing 800 kilograms, will welcome the international tennis world right in the heart of the city over the next three weeks. Two oversized tennis rackets, linked by a tennis ball and a large heart – a symbol of unity through sport, partnership, team spirit and, last but not least, a passion for tennis. Because one thing is certain: world-class tennis is back in the city, bringing together Munich’s sports, tennis and events fans alike.
The “Spectacular” is a joint project between the Department for Labour and Economic Affairs, the host and licence holder MTTC Iphitos, and the organiser MMP Event.

The 109th edition of the BMW Open by Bitpanda promises a high-calibre field of participants, led by the current No. 2 in the world, Alexander Zverev (GER), and the No. 4 in the rankings, Taylor Fritz (USA). They will be joined by absolute top stars of the scene such as Ben Shelton (USA), Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN), Hubert Hurkacz (POL), Denis Shapovalov (CAN), Matteo Berrettini (ITA), Gael Monfils (FRA), defending champion Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) and many more. Without exception, all matches from Centre Court can be watched live and free of charge this year via the Joyn streaming app. With additional coverage including highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and news reports, viewers won’t miss a single second of the 2025 BMW Open by Bitpanda. As is traditional, everything will also be broadcast live on ran.de, and for the first time, both singles semi-finals on Saturday and the singles final on Sunday will be shown live on ProSieben Maxx.
