Facts and figures
The Allianz Para Trophy returns to Munich for the fifth time as part of the BMW Open by Bitpanda. For the third time in a row, the tournament is an official ITF Wheelchair 500 event of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and is therefore one of the most important competitions in international wheelchair tennis - comparable in value to high-class events on the ATP Tour.
Top players from all over the world are once again expected in Munich from 16 to 18 April. This year, the tournament will also feature an exciting innovation: For the first time, two competitions will be held - the Open Division (Men's Singles) and the Quad Division.
In wheelchair tennis, classifications ensure fair competition conditions. The Quad Division is aimed at players with limitations on three or more limbs, i.e. not just in the lower body area.
With eight players in each competition, spectators in Munich can look forward to top-class and spectacular wheelchair tennis. The Allianz Para Trophy in the "Quad" category will feature three players in particular: first and foremost the world number one, Niels Vink from the Netherlands. The 23-year-old, who lost both legs and several bones in his hands due to an illness, has already won the "Career Golden Slam" - all Grand Slam titles and the Paralympic gold medal. Together with his compatriot and doubles partner Sam Schroeder (ITF No. 2) and the Israeli Guy Sasson (No. 3), he is one of the favourites for the title in Munich.
The Open Division will once again feature world-class players, including Gustavo Fernandez from Argentina, who has already won Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and has twice reached the final in Munich.
The first rounds will be played on Thursday 16 April. The semi-finals will follow on Friday, 17 April, before the finals and the subsequent award ceremony take place on Saturday, 18 April.
The Allianz Para Trophy once again promises tennis at the highest international level in Munich this year.

UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour
Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world and is played in the same way as tennis for the able-bodied, with the only exception that a wheelchair tennis player is allowed to hit the ball twice. Men and women compete separately in the Open division, while players with more severe disabilities compete in the Mixed Quad division.
Wheelchair tennis has been a fully-fledged medal sport at the Paralympic Games since 1992 and has been played at all four Grand Slam tournaments since 2007, while the BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the sport's most important international team competition.
Wheelchair tennis has its own professional tour, the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, which comprises over 160 tournaments in 40 different countries in all regions of the world. The tour is endowed with prize money totalling over USD 3 million and culminates in the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and the ITF Wheelchair Doubles Masters, which conclude the season.
