BMW Open by Bitpanda 2026:
Absolute world-class field also at the Allianz Para Trophy
_Struff and Hanfmann receive first wildcards
_Krawietz/Pütz, Zverev & other top players sign up for doubles
Munich. A few days before the start of the BMW Open by Bitpanda 2026, the top-class field of players continues to take shape. Including the Allianz Para Trophy. A tournament that has long since established itself as a sporting highlight and will once again be held from 16 to 18 April as the official competition of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour. New this year is the official categorisation as a 500-player tournament and the premiere of the Quad Division. Eight players will compete here in the singles, as well as in the Open Division, which has already been on the programme in Munich in previous years. The Allianz Para Trophy field promises nothing less than absolute world class, with the number one, two and three of the current world rankings in the quad. First and foremost the number one in the world, Niels Vink from the Netherlands. The 23-year-old, who lost both legs and several bones in his hands due to an illness, has already won the "Career Golden Slam" - all Grand Slam titles and the Paralympic gold medal. Together with his compatriot and doubles partner Sam Schroeder (No. 2) and the Israeli Guy Sasson (No. 3), he is one of the favourites for the title in Munich. And in the Open Division, fans and visitors can also traditionally look forward to world-class players, including Gustavo Fernandez from Argentina, who has already won Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and has also triumphed in Munich.
Long-standing partner of para sport
Title partner Allianz has been involved right from the start. The fact that the quad discipline is also being held for the first time is another strong sign. This is because the quad competition involves players with limitations on at least three limbs, which requires a special adaptation of the playing technique and equipment. This category is an essential part of wheelchair tennis and enables athletes with more severe physical limitations to compete at the highest level. "The introduction of the quad competition is a significant step towards further promoting inclusion in para-sports and providing a stage for even more athletes," explains Manuel Duhnke, Head of Sponsoring at Allianz. "We are proud to make wheelchair tennis accessible to a wider audience with the Allianz Para Trophy - for a more inclusive society in which cohesion and togetherness take centre stage."
Equal opportunities, top performance and fairness - these are values that are close to Allianz's heart. As a partner of the Paralympic Movement and the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS), the company has been promoting the visibility of Para sport for 20 years. "Inclusion is not just a buzzword for us, but a living reality. With the Allianz Para Trophy, we are delighted to support an event that not only impresses in sporting terms, but also reflects the values of Allianz," emphasises Duhnke.
Tournament Director Mischa Zverev is looking forward to this year's event with great anticipation: "Thanks to Allianz, the Para Trophy has developed into one of the highlights of the Wheelchair Tennis Tour in recent years. With the introduction of the quad competition and the strong line-up, we can look forward to a tournament that sets standards and brings people together."
In addition to the exciting matches on the courts, the focus is also on promoting young talent. On Thursday, 16 April 2026, Allianz is organising an exclusive training session for children and young people as part of the Allianz Para Trophy. This will be led by Mischa Zverev and national wheelchair tennis coach Niklas Höfken. The aim is to introduce the young participants to para-sports in general and wheelchair tennis in particular.
Struff and Hanfmann receive first wildcards
Yannick Hanfmann and Jan-Lennard Struff will receive the first two wildcards for the high-calibre main draw of the BMW Open by Bitpanda. Hanfmann, currently number 55 in the world rankings, has already reached the final on clay in Santiago this year and has already reached the quarter-finals in Munich. Jan-Lennard Struff, who won his very first ATP title in Munich in 2024, is always a hot candidate and dangerous opponent on the courts at MTTC Iphitos.
Krawietz/Pütz, Zverev & other top players sign up for doubles
Fans can also look forward to Grand Slam winners and illustrious names in the doubles competition. First and foremost the number one seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz. The two Germans will be competing at the BMW Open by Bitpanda with a clear goal and an eye on the title, having reached the final last year and in 2023, but were unable to take the final step there. In addition to previous winners such as Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler as well as illustrious names from the doubles world, singles specialists are also on the entry list this year. Alexander Zverev will be competing with friend and doubles legend Marcelo Melo. Francisco Cerundolo, Luciano Darderi and Arthur Rinderknech are also on the list of starters.
Singles field stronger than ever
The singles field at this year's BMW Open by Bitpanda has it all. Fans and visitors can look forward to an impressive number of illustrious names from 11 - 19 April. Led by star players Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Alexander Bublik, a total of seven players from the top 20 of the world rankings will be playing at MTTC Iphitos - a first for the traditional tournament. They include Flavio Cobolli, Jiri Lehecka, Luciano Darderi and Francisco Cerúndolo. Also on the entry list for the first time in Munich: Shooting star Joao Fonseca from Brazil and Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas. Prominent names such as Denis Shapovalov, Hubert Hurkacz and Marin Cilic complete the field. Taylor Fritz unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.
